Here at pack tunch we believe that raw means food not cooked or exposed to high temperatures. This is so the food keeps all of its goodness; that in turn can be passed onto you.
When making pack tunch we use an entirely raw process; no cooking or heating. Basically all we do is mash up all the ingredients, mix them up and compress them until it all sticks together. After that we shape it and pack it - simple.
As far as possible we try to use raw ingredients in our bars; on average 95%. We do however have to use a little puffed rice around 2.25g in any 45g bar. We release puffed rice is heat treated and therefore not constituting it raw. But if we used normal, hard, dry rice, one, pack tunch bars would not taste the way they do and two, it's not good for your tummy.
At pack tunch we believe honesty is the best policy and what is more important to us is why we use puffed rice? Pack tunch use puffed rice mainly to allow us to process the bars effectively. The rice makes the bars less sticky, stodgy and heavy, allowing them to flow through our machines.
While we're being honest we think its best we tell you that the dates we use are rolled in rice flour, about 1%. Dates come into the country in one of two ways rolled in rice flour or coated in sunflower oil; this is done so manufacturers are able to pack them. By choosing those coated in rice flour we felt we chose the healthier option. This is the only way we can import them and something we would avoid if we could.
Our main problem, and that of our competitors, is that processed foods do not readily compliment a 100% raw diet as manufacturers have to make their product with; a good shelf life, no chance of harming the public and available all year round. We feel like we make positive choices to adhere to raw guidelines as thoroughly as possible while making our product store quality.
What remains constant here at pack tunch is that we try to use the best possible ingredients combined in the best possible ways to keep pack tunch as natural, nutritious and tasty as possible.
So there you have it, raw honesty.
Pack tunch strongly supports food manufacturers using local produce. Unfortunately due to the nature of our ingredients this isn't possible. Many of the ingredients are produced in the UK but only on a seasonal and small level basis. We need to make large amounts of pack tunch all year round so we pick the best of what we can from the international community.
Coming from a range of countries our dates, almonds, walnuts, raisins, apple, pineapple, coconut are rather well travelled, but whether they are Ugandan, Sri Lankan or Californian Tunch make sure not to air freight them here.
All of our ingredients are natural and of the highest quality. We work in close partnership with our suppliers to ensure that our ingredients are sourced from sustainable and ethical growers.
All in all pack tunch are rather well travelled little bars.
Here at pack tunch we don't believe in air freighting our ingredients. We are lucky enough that dried fruit and nuts have a long shelf life (and sea legs) so can easily be brought here by boat.
Many people use fruit that is either freeze dried or dried by machines in large factories. Pack tunch use fruit that has been dried naturally by the sun. This is in line with our quest to keep pack tunch as natural as possible.
Yes. All our ingredients are certified GMO free.
As it states on our packaging our bars are wheat and gluten free. Pck tunch bars are completely free of ingredients derived from gluten-containing cereals, wheat, barley, rye and triticale. Our bars are free from additives in the form of flavourings and stabilizing or thickening agents.
In addition to this pack tunch bars are made in a safe environment which only we use so no cross-contamination can occur.
Some people add colourings to make their food look pretty. Here at pack tunch we don't add anything and its obvious when you look at our bars. Mix fruit, nuts and cereals and it comes out brown – just the way nature intended it to be.
Its simple – compression. By chopping up the ingredients really finely, adding a little natural juice or oil and compressing it all together. The ingredients bond naturally and are then shaped and packed.
